Shiraz Pinot

Bottle Price $35

Bright and fresh in the glass, the nose is divine! Spicy, fragrant, cherries and cinnamon all entwined with a good lick of Hunter savouriness. The palate is soft and supple from the Pinot showing strawberries and mulberries. Then there is the power and silky tannins, the structure and weight and the beautiful length from the Shiraz. Medium body in weight, and a wine that should cellar really well up to 10 years.

Another experimental first for us at Hart & Hunter, with the production of a small batch of Shiraz Pinot. Historically an important blend which goes back decades in the Hunter Valley. There has been aresurgence in recent years of this blend, and so there should be as it really is delicious. Both parcels of fruit were matured separately with the final blend being made and put together just prior to readying for bottle. The Shiraz portion was selected from the Vanessa Vale vineyard, whilst the Pinot came from the block at cellar door. Being a small blend we had a puncheon of each, so a 50/50 blend, with the challenge and aim of attainingthat symmetry of balance: trying to weight up the structure and strength of the Shiraz without losing that lovely perfume and lusciousness of the Pinot.

We will probably talk about 2017 for many years tocome yet, especially that we were able to make a couple of new wines from such a successful year. The Sangiovese is delightful, and super tasty andsomething we are proud to have launched with. The nose is ripe with cherries, chocolate & a hint of dried herbs. Whilst the palate is savoury and everything you would expect from a classic Italian variety. Juicy withred berries and cranberry fruit, soft tannins and a long spicy finish.

Grilled mushrooms stuffed with feta, fresh herbs & chilli.

This wine should see some lovely ageing up to 10 years.
