A great new vineyard for us, bright and lively with lemonade like acidity. A real delight to drink now, but a wine that should age very well.

Following one of the driest years on record since 2003, we have launched into another hot dry vintage in 2018. Cool overnight temps followed by long hot, dry days have made for challenging growing conditions with vines generally maintaining their canopies and a slow steady rise in sugar accumulation. The ultimate result of two hot dry seasons is lower crop yields, but commanding quality!
Hart Vineyard Semillon is a new wine in our portfolio coming off the old Writers Block in Lovedale. Deep sandy soils have encouraged a wine of finesse and defined citrus heartbeat. Small, low treslised vines in an un-irrigated vineyard, that maintained a good canopy throughout the summer. As with all of our Semillon, we start with the best fruit! Hand picked, directly to the winery for processing, crushed and pressed, left to settle over night. Then racked clear for fermenting with neutral yeast, and 3 months later – voila!!
The Hart Vineyard Semillon is superb in its appearances. Its bright luminous green, with an aromatic nose of floral blossom and citrus rind leading into a delicious palate that is crisp and fresh. Traditional characters of lime & lemon rind dominate, but with reflections of gooseberry and wet slate tying it all together. A really delicious drink, that we are proud to have in our line-up.
We are enjoying the Hart Semillon with simple grilled scallops, sweet pickled apple and spicy garlic sauce.
A great wine drinking now, but definitely leave it in the cellar if you can for 5+ years.
