2018 The Remparts
Semillon

Bottle Price $30

The Remparts from this year is giving us a more textured and subtly different approach than normal. It starts with a subtle blossom lift and then melds into straw and dried herbs and ties together beautifully with citrus flavours and really bright lemon. Lovely drinking.

Following one of the driest years on record since 2003, we have launched into another hot dry vintage in 2018. Cool overnight temps followed by long hot, dry days have made for challenging growing conditions with vines generally maintaining their canopies and a slow steady rise in sugar accumulation. The ultimate result of two hot dry seasons is lower crop yields, but commanding quality!

Located off Broke Road at the western end of Pokolbin, the Noble Domain vineyard has approximately 3 acres planted across fine sandy loam soils, which this year have encouraged a powerful textural wine. Always a little more generous on the palate this vineyard tends to produce riper characters, whilst allowing the natural acidity to reap its own rewards. A hand picked vineyard, on a mighty hot day, we get straight into it and process the fruit directly into cold tanks. The making of great Semillon really happens in the vineyard, and our focus is always in first selecting the best parcels of fruit, but then preserving that purity once in the winery. We achieve this by utilising neutral yeasts, and running cold slow ferments.

We are enjoying the Remparts with seared scallops.

An amazing wine drinking now, but it should cellar for the short to medium term.
